Mortgage Underwriting Manager at SoFi

Description
The Mortgage Underwriting Manager ensures the daily workflow of the underwriting team is managed to published turn times, ensures the quality of loans underwritten through their team, watches defect rates are at acceptable levels and ensures customer service to branches meets with SoFi standards. You will train new underwriters added to the team and cross train underwriters to be most productive to the team for multiple loan products.

The following list outlines the responsibilities of the Mortgage Underwriting Manager:

Approval authority for loan amounts up to $1.5 mil., more complex loans and exceptions to policy per exception policy matrices
Monitor workflow, operational and underwriting efficiency in order to recommend/make changes and operational improvements
Manage a team of mortgage underwriters and junior underwriters on Jumbo loans and conventional residential lending
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
Provide coaching, development opportunities and monitoring performance of mortgage underwriters
Problem solve and handle loan level escalation
Key communicator with other members of management and with branch personnel
Responsible for Team management including achieving individual and team goals, load balancing, staffing, coaching and performance management
Help coordinate on-site third party audits as needed
Provide support to Director of Mortgage Underwriting and additional ad hoc duties.
Education/Experience/Certifications

Multi-state underwriting experience required
Four-year degree or equivalent experience.
Five + years’ experience in Mortgage underwriting.
Three + years’ management/supervisory experience.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Knowledge of the complete mortgage lending process.
Knowledge of financial analysis techniques.
High degree of attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Demonstrated leadership, organizational, teamwork and customer service skills.
Strong PC skills (MS Office) required, must have experience with Mortgage origination systems, platforms tools and technology.
Encompass experience a plus
Ability to analyze policies, procedures and guidelines in a way that maximizes productivity but protects the level of risk desired.
Ability to make decisions in a time sensitive manner.
