As Head of Design, you will grow our design team and scale it through a culture of partnership and collaboration that pushes the boundaries of great design and teamwork across both web and mobile applications. You will collaborate with the executive team to define and refine our product strategy, utilizing a combination of research, data, and analytics to make the best product and design decisions. We're a tight, collaborative team looking for a design leader to take the solid foundation we’ve built to the next level as our technological breadth grows and our business expands.

Define the strategy for our product design team's growth and lead that team as their mentor and role model. Think about the long-term and think about our design strategy holistically - not just project by project
Build bridges. You communicate what your organization is capable of and actively make connections throughout the company to inspire others teams to better leverage data/insight to further the user experience.
Inspire, empower, and motivate your team to pursue their best work possible. Sometimes that's due to themselves but most often with others through a collaborative effort that includes people outside of the design team.
Provide feedback and guidance around all facets of the product design process, moving between user experience design, interface design, and visual design.
Recruit and hire best-in-class product, and visual designers, interaction,, and brand designers. This role will include growing the design team beyond its current size.
Drive quality design work and evolve Button’s design systems and design language to adapt to new product, content and marketing challenges.
Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to ship high quality product, while constantly working to improve our product development process.
Be comfortable with standard design practices like design critiques for feedback, wireframing/prototyping of ideas pre-implementation, standard practices to foster ideation, research, and iteration and creation of a component-based design system.

You are an excellent design skills, with at least 5 years of product design/brand experience.
Significant experience (at minimum 4 years) running a product design team of more than 4 people. Ideally this team should consist of a mix of visual designers, UX/UI designers, and design researchers
A strong understanding of how the product design process works, including user experience design, interface design, and visual design
Conceived and iterated on product features based on data, analytics, and strategyBalanced user and business needs while remaining flexible in a fast-changing startup environment (able to “roll with the punches”)
Experience working alongside marketing to produce and execute a national marketing campaign
Great communication skills to help set up frameworks and brainstorm initial design concepts
Passion – you are excited to contribute and take ownership at an early-stage company
A desire to shape and evolve the design team’s culture
A drive to learn and get better every day

Chris Maddern, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Button. Prior to Button, Chris led mobile engineering at popular social payments network Venmo & has founded several mobile products startups.. some of which were successful. In his spare time, Chris is an avid foodie and wine-lover. When not eating or drinking he will always be found tinkering with some new project (or tweeting).
Nelle McDade, Nelle works on all things design related at Button, from the dashboard, in-app user-experience, to the delightful branded assets and internal tools. Outside of Button Nelle is a public policy wonk and an avid baker, you can find her with a fresh batch of homemade cookies every weekend!
Patrick Lewis, Patrick joined Button in September 2014. Previously, he ran Butterscotch Labs, a product design shop with clients including Aviary, Dash, and Hailo. When not designing Button, Patrick mentors startups at Techstars NYC, ERA, and helps teach young designers at Startup Institute. Recently he's been getting into black and white street photography.
