Data Scientist, Business Intelligence at Button

As a Data Scientist, Business Intelligence dedicated to our Data Analytics Team you will be responsible for empowering everyone at Button to access and use data to advance the business. You will be a partner to customer success, finance, marketing and product engineering, helping them with key insights from challenging datasets. As an early employee, you will have a foundational role in shaping how the company draws key insights and uses data effectively and consistently in order to drive our business forward.

As a Data Scientist, Business Intelligence you will:

    • Design, build, and maintain dashboards used by department stakeholders

    • Write reusable code/queries that data scientists or others can rerun for extended analysis

    • Help define KPIs, metrics and key terminology that allows the company to communicate key ideas consistently

    • Work closely with engineers and data scientists to design and implement on-the-fly A/B  and multivariate testing of consumer/client facing product features

    • Work closely with other data scientists to discover insights for internal/external dissemination

    • Partner with our customer success, sales and finance teams to tackle their data challenges in short (weekly) tasks or long (quarterly) projects

    • Teach others outside of data science how to access and make use of data through various means (SQL, logs access, dashboard creation/adjustment, etc.)

    • Build lightweight ETL processes that package data for downstream consumption

We look for teammates who have:

    • Experience with SQL and BI tools (Chartio, Tableau, etc.)

    • Familiarity with a variety of data access, such as Redshift, APIs, S3 logs

    • Open and active in sharing knowledge as well as excellent communication skills

    • Programming experience in one or more application or systems languages like Python

    • Expert critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills

    • 2-4 years of analytics experience with a STEM degree

Who will you work with?

      • Wilson Tsao is a member of the Data Science team at Button. Previously he was in similar roles at Eventbrite, Yingli Solar, and Goldman Sachs. He enjoys playing and watching basketball in his spare time.

      • Sean Summers works on all things data at Button, developing the machine learning algorithms that drive Button's contextual matching engine. Born and raised in California, Sean loves to travel the world with his family, often to Switzerland where he lived for 7 years before being deported.

      • Liwei Mao builds data pipelines, design controlled product experiments, and creates beautiful visualizations to present data collected at Button. She spends her free time searching for delicious food and reading in the sun.

      • Mijail Gomez Munoz is a generalist Data Scientist. Currently working on anomaly detection algorithms, behavioral models to improve Buttons matching engine, and building data pipelines. He enjoys hiking with his aussie and pick up soccer.
