About the role

Plenty is looking for a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our Systems Integration Team. The Systems Integration team is responsible for defining requirements, interfaces, integrated design concepts, and processes at the farm level to ensure subsystem designs successfully integrate into a cohesive production farm that can achieve overarching functionality. In this role, you will define and document farm level requirements, systems interfaces, and integrated system design concepts. This work will enable subsystem design engineering teams and external partners to efficiently drive progress on detailed designs and maximize the performance and sustainability of future farms.

What you'll do

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts from internal teams like plant science, engineering, software and controls, operations, supply chain, program management, and finance as well as external vendors to define critical farm level requirements
  • Collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts to develop integrated farm level designs and document these designs in a farm level design of record summary to enable subsystem engineers and external vendors to execute detailed subsystem and building designs
  • Support detailed subsystem design development by modeling system interactions and contributing to subsystem requirements definition, design reviews, and failure mode and effects analyses
  • Review detailed subsystem designs in the context of the integrated farm design to identify and lead coordinated resolution of clashes and compatibility issues
  • Collaborate with design engineering, research engineering, plant science, and operations teams to develop test plans for prototype and research grow spaces to validate and de-risk the performance of integrated systems
  • Communicate systems integration insights and tradeoffs to internal and external teams to drive robust decision making

What you'll bring to the table

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling with SolidWorks. Experience with large scale integrated CAD models in Revit or similar
  • Experience developing integrated designs for complex electromechanical systems
  • You’re highly collaborative and thrive at listening to and capturing input from people outside your area of expertise
  • You’re great at communicating complex technical concepts as well as high level strategy and tradeoffs across disciplines and teams
  • Experience designing systems that interface with biological processes or other disciplines with complex, non-deterministic relationships and interdependencies
